Let's move somewhere around 500 years ago when Portuguese want to get into Malacca, the most developed country is this region. They tried everything to get into the town but it comes to no avail. One of the reason lies within the Malay Rulers. They had easily handed over their land to the British especially because they were promised easy money and easy lives. To them, why work hard when someone can pay you a big money?

The Malay Rulers were persuaded to give up the administration simply by a bribery. They were offered political pensions, palaces, money and Rolls Royce cars if they signed the agreements to hand over their land to the British. They make British officials as Advisers or Residents and these Advisers responsible to give advised to the Malay Rulers and must be followed. Of course the Rulers were paid but where British get the money? The money simply comes from the revenue collected from the states and not from British money. That means British didn't spend a sibgle penny of their own money to pay these Malay Rulers.

From this situations, we can see that how brilliant British planned and worked their plan impressively while the Malay Rulers simply cheated by these brains. They have brains and we only have brutes. Brains won.
